UAE AND RUSSIA INTEND TO CONTINUE COOPERATION IN SPACE

The UAE looks forward to further cooperation with Russia in the field of space exploration. Mohammad Ahmad Sultan Yessa Aljaber, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to the Russian Federation, told reporters about this on Sunday at the solemn ceremony of completing the eight-month isolation experiment SIRIUS-2021.

“Russia is an important partner of the Emirates in the field of space exploration. Our countries have signed an agreement on cooperation in the development of space exploration. Negotiations are underway between the two countries. We will hope that cooperation in space will only grow stronger,” he said.

The crew of the SIRIUS experiment, which ends on July 3 in Moscow at the Institute of Biomedical Problems, also included a representative of the United Arab Emirates. “I am sure that the crew showed professionalism and completed the task,” the ambassador said.

Earlier, representatives of the Institute of Biomedical Problems (IMBP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Mohammed Ben Rashid Space Center (MBRSC, UAE) at a working meeting agreed to expand cooperation and further participation of MBRSC in the SIRIUS-2021 isolation experiment. At the same time, MBRSC participants agreed to cooperate in other analog projects.

Within the framework of the SIRIUS (Scientific International Research In Unique terrestrial Station) project, space flights are simulated on the basis of the Ground Experimental Complex of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The objective of the project is to enable space exploration beyond low Earth orbit, which will reduce the risks to human health and performance through a targeted program of fundamental, applied and operational research.
